Wash and Full Decontamination

The car gets a thorough two-bucket wash followed by an iron fallout spray and clay bar treatment. This strips every layer of bonded contamination off the paint so the coating has a clean surface to bond to. Skipping this step is why cheap coatings fail early.

Paint Correction (Pro Shield and Elite Armor)

A machine polisher removes swirl marks, fine scratches and water etching from the clear coat. Paint correction is what makes the coating pop. You cannot coat over damage and expect a great result. This step is what separates a proper job from a quick spray-and-go.

Panel Wipe-Down and Surface Prep

Every panel gets wiped down with a panel prep solution to remove any polish residue or oils. The surface needs to be completely clean and dry before the coating goes on. This step ensures maximum bonding and prevents high spots or streaking.

Ceramic Coating Application

The coating is applied one panel at a time using a suede applicator block. It is levelled off before it flashes to a high-spots. Each layer is applied with care and buffed to a consistent finish across the whole car. On Elite Armor, additional layers are added after the first cure.

Cure and Final Inspection

The coating needs time to cure properly before the car gets wet or is driven in heavy rain. Matthew walks you through the aftercare requirements, checks every panel under a light source for uniformity, and hands over an aftercare guide so you know exactly how to maintain it.

Ceramic Coating FAQ

Royal Detailing offers three tiers: Essential Protection, Pro Shield and Elite Armor. Pricing depends on the tier you choose, your vehicle size and its current paint condition. Get a free quote and Matthew will give you a straight answer based on your specific car.
Most jobs take between four and eight hours on the day, depending on the tier and how much paint correction is needed beforehand. The coating itself then needs 24 to 48 hours to fully cure before it should get wet. Matthew will give you a clear time estimate when you request your quote.
That depends on the product tier and how well the car is maintained afterward. Entry-level coatings typically last one to two years. Higher-tier coatings applied with proper preparation can last three to five years or longer with correct maintenance washes. Harsh conditions, automatic car washes and harsh chemicals all shorten coating life.
Ceramic coating makes washing easier but it does not make it unnecessary. A regular hand wash using a pH-neutral car shampoo every two to four weeks is the main requirement. Avoid automatic car washes with brushes as these cause swirl marks in the coating. A maintenance spray applied every three to six months helps the coating stay hydrophobic and adds another layer of protection.
Warranty details depend on the tier selected and are provided in writing at the time of booking. If you notice any defects in the application within the warranty period, contact Matthew directly and it will be assessed and rectified.
They each do different things. Wax sits on top of the paint and washes off within weeks. It is a short-term option. Ceramic coating bonds chemically to the clear coat and lasts years. Paint protection film (PPF) is a physical barrier that also protects against stone chips and deeper scratches, which ceramic coating does not. For most daily drivers in Auckland, ceramic coating is the best value-for-money option. If stone chip protection is a priority, Matthew can talk you through combining both.
Not always, but often yes. Ceramic coating locks in whatever is on the paint surface underneath it. If your car has swirl marks, water spots or scratches, those will still be visible after the coating goes on. For the best result, any paint correction should be done before the coating is applied. This is included in the Pro Shield and Elite Armor tiers.
